Japanese Food in Shah Alam

Few weeks ago, I was in Shah Alam and hunger for Japanese food. After a few search on the internet, we settled for Agehan Japanese restaurant in Grand Blue Wave Hotel. Due to the Ramadhan buffet at the hotel lobby, the whole corridor was smoky and filled with the smell of BBQ. Interior wise, the restaurant boasted of traditional wooden furniture, with plenty of green bamboo plants and warm orange lighting welcoming us at the entrance.

A platter of Sashimi Moriawase – a combination of salmon, mackerel, tuna, butter fish and octopus served with a dollop of wasabi. It was ok with nothing to shout about.

Next was a plate of Nigiri Sushi Moriawase, a combination of various sushi including one with salmon roe on top. Again, nothing to shout about.

We were in the mood for sake that night, so we ordered both cold and warm Sake Nihon Sakari Kire Aji.

After having enough of raw stuff, we turned to Agedashi Tofu. The tofu was deep fried with a crispy exterior while maintaining a silky soft and smooth interior. The tofu on its own was bland, but mix it with some soy sauce and the savoury bonito flakes on top and it resulted in a nicely balanced flavour that was not overpowering.

Tori Katsu or deep-fried fried chicken was deep-fried until golden and was extremely crunchy. Good to have it with a squeeze of lemon.

Saba Shioyaki or grilled mackerel with slightly charred bits on the skin that gave it a nice crispy bite while retaining its moist within the flesh. The squeeze of lemon is all you need Smile

We also tried a plate of Tempura Moriawase that was filled with huge deep-fried shrimps, vegetables and a slice of pumpkin!

When the next dish of Kaki Furai was served, I took a bite without knowing what was inside. I found it to have an extremely crunchy skin with a soft and juicy inside. But I have to mind my cholesterol level, so I just had one.

For dessert, what else if not other than Green Tree Ice-cream topped with red bean and a piece of cracker. I think i would prefer just plain ice-cream will do Smile with tongue out

It was overall a satisfying meal and will suppressed my appetite for Japanese food for few weeks I think.

  1. looks like a good treat. but seems kind of costly for something that you have nothing to shout about... Oh the cold sake bottle! I have been searching for that too.. can't seem to find it I wonder where they got it hehe :).

  2. A delectable treat indeed. I love eating Japanese food, but I enjoy more is watching masters chop ingredients and prepare my sushi in a traditional fashion right before my eyes.

  3. Right Jimmy, but it's more of a way to entice you to eat your meal. Knifing skills as a show look terrific, and it plays a big role in making you excited for your meal.
