Best Mexican Tequila at Bentley’s Pub Nikko Hotel

Last week? Is it last week? :) Too many events to attend, and I have lost track on the date ! Haha. Nikko hotel is introducing the Mexican Tequila, which is imported directly from Mexico. If you’re unaware, Tequila is only permitted to be produced in 5 states out of 32 states in Mexico.

Tequila (Spanish pronunciation: [teˈkila]) is a Blue Agave-based spirit made primarily in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, 65 kilometres (40 mi) northwest of Guadalajara, and in the highlands (Los Altos) of the western Mexican state of Jalisco. (Source: Wikipedia)

First, we were served by some Mexican “finger foods”.

***** 1st Tip to Know it’s a GOOD Tequila *****:  If you don’t get drunk easily, then it’s a good tequila. I’m serious ! Don’t believe me?

Steps for Tequila Tasting (Source from wifey):

1) Observe the colour and clarity of the Tequila by tilting it to 45 degrees and swirling it around. The liquid was clear and flowed down from the wall of the glass quickly. This indicates a high level of alcohol content. The faster it flows down from the walls of the glass, the higher the alcohol content is.

2) Secondly, we’re supposed to smell the Tequila – while it’s still and while it’s swirled. When it’s swirled, the smell emitted was slightly different and very much stronger.

3) Temperature - the best temperature to keep Tequila is within 14-17C. It’s also not advisable to put it in the fridge.

4) Taste – This was the part we were all waiting for. However, there’s a technique to it. We’re not supposed to inhale deep before sipping it unless we wanted to get drunk faster! *LOL* Also, once we sipped, we’re asked to swirl it in our mouth for a few seconds before swallowing. Wow, I tell you, the taste was just SPICY. The first sip was supposed to adjust our palate to the Tequila, while the second sip was for us to taste it. Kevin also insisted that this was the correct way to enjoy Tequila, and not mixed with salt and lime as shown in movies. Now you know! ;)

***** 2nd Tip to Know it’s A GOOD Tequila *****:  Shake the Tequila /Mezcal bottle hard and observe the bubbles created. A real Tequila/Mezcal should create a lot of bubbles, like those of a detergent wash. So there you have it! Make sure you test the Tequila/Mezcal before purchasing them in the future.

Now, just wonder if the bubbles will last if everyone starts shaking them.
