Dine and Chill by the Lake at Sanook Bistro

No idea where to celebrate CNY with your fellow friends? Can’t think of any suitable place for Valentine? Why not drive yourself to Plaza Kelana Jaya, dine and chill at the same place. Best part of all, it’s by the lake !

Below is the bar area of Sanook. For loners or those who wish to attract opposite sex, you may sit here Smile with tongue out

If you choose to chill out upstairs, there is a pool table and a spacious place to hang out with friends too.

Sitting by the window, and enjoying at the lake view outside while chatting with a group of close friends, what else can you ask for?

I ordered myself Kilkenny draft full pint, it’s only RM18 during the Happy Hours (Normal price RM26).Just within minutes, only half was left Smile with tongue out

We ordered few Tapas to try before entering into mains. The first tapas we tried was Chargirll Zucchini. For those of you who has no idea what tapas is, read it below.

Tapas is the name of a wide variety of appetizers, or snacks, in Spanish cuisine. They as mixed olives and cheese) or warm (such as chopitos, which are battered, fried baby squid). In select bars in Spain, as well as some parts of North America and the United Kingdom, tapas has evolved into an entire, and sometimes sophisticated, cuisine. In Spain, patrons of tapas can order many different tapas and combine them to make a full meal. In some Central American countries such snacks are known as bocas.”                                                                                   (Source: Wikipedia)

Yes, I would recommend this one, it melted in every bite. Just perfect to go along with a glass of beer.

Next tapas was Baked Potato Skin, another recommended one by me. The potato was actually taken out (maybe they use it for other purpose like mashed potatoes or something?), leaving only the skin, then topped with cheese, capsicum and meat (beef or chicken).

Next tapas was Bruschetta. Most of the time I ordered this from other restaurants, the bread was cold when it reached my table. This is the very first time I got to eat a warm and still maintain some crunchiness, topped with prawns, calamari, mussels, mozarella cheese & served with tomato sauce.

The next dish was Tod Man Kung, a thai style deep fried shrimp cakes with sweet basil, a must with your beers.

The baked oysters with cream mushroom ragout & mozzarella cheese is also recommended. I know I know, I recommended almost all the tapas, I guess they just suit my taste perfectly well.

As the starter for mains, we ordered ourselves pizza. This one was called Barra Barra pizza which comes with slices of Barramundi fish with baby leeks olives Mango Mojo and dressed with wild rockets. I never tried a pizza topped with fish slices before, but it definitely deserves my thumbs up as I’m a health conscious person. Fish? Never say no Smile

The star dish of the night was the Twister Braised Lamb Shank, tenderly cooked over low fire with rosemary herbs, served on a bed of braised baby kailan, tomato chili chutney, mashed potatoes (Ha ! Probably this is the potato taken out from the tapas - Baked Potato Skin) & rosemary emulsion. I love it !

Next mains was Grilled Chicken Chop with Lemon & Thyme Herbs. This is America’s favorite roast chicken, served with idaho jacket potatoes, corn on the cob, ratatouille & wild mushroom sauce. This one was pretty average for me, nothing to shout about except for it was grilled instead of deep fried, so it deserves some extra points on that.

We also ordered the chicken rice. Wait, what? Hainanese Chicken Rice in a bistro? Yes, I said it right, the steamed fresh succulent chicken with special light soya sauce is served here too. According to the owner, the rice used was Thai fragrant rice, so it tasted so much better, you can even eat it on it’s own Smile

Next was Sang Har Mee, a Chinatown’s crispy noodles with wok-fried jumbo water prawns, served with braised bok choy in a rich prawn gravy. Just look at the prawns, the picture shows a thousands words. Andy loves this one, believe it or not, he finished the gravy ! Respect, man !

There are multiple drinks to choose from wine, beer, or fruit juices but the one that caught my attention was this Mountain Fresh juices, with a choice of Apple, Pear, Mango, Guava, Peach & Tropical (mixed fruits). It is claimed to be 100% natural ingredients apple based juice with no preservatives. Served in iced cold bottles of 400ml. So, can you guess which one I chose? Scroll down.

Of course I grabbed the Mango juice ! Smile with tongue out

Going into desserts, let me introduce to you one of the best Tiramisu I ever had. It was chilled and refreshing with right amount of coffee & liquor. Perfect !

For chocolate lovers, there is chocolate mud cake – Savory mud cake with Haagen-Dazs chocolate ice cream on Vanilla Sauce. Tempted?

It was a great dinner with the special appearance of my buddy, Andy who also loves photography (armed with his Canon 7D) and a guy who always proud of Penang food.

Overall, the food was great with wide selection of drinks, good customer service, great ambience no matter inside, upstairs or outside (by the lake). I will definitely be going back !
